If you have been asked by your friend to be the best man at his wedding, you may be feeling a little concerned and confused about what your duties may be. After all, many guys aren’t exactly comfortable with anything that has to do with weddings and being the best man only makes the situation worse. Don’t worry, best man, it really isn’t as stressful as you might think.

As the best man, you will need to rent a tuxedo or purchases whatever type of outfit the bride and groom have selected for you to wear. Traditionally, you are responsible for making this purchase. So, before you decide to take on the role of best man, make sure you are in the financial position to pay for your clothes. You will also need to go to at least one fitting in order to make certain your tux fits you properly.

In addition to getting a tuxedo, you will also be responsible for throwing a bachelor party for the groom. While you aren’t necessarily obligated to throw a bachelor’s party, it is a tradition that many grooms look forward to. Therefore, you should seriously consider throwing the party for the groom. Be certain to talk with the groom about the type of bachelor party he would like, however, as the traditional type of bachelor party involving strippers and other paid female entertainment isn’t necessarily what the groom and bride want.

You should also be prepared to attend the rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner. Don’t worry, this isn’t that difficult. All you really need to do is show up at the rehearsal so you can learn about where you will stand and how the wedding will take place. At the dinner, all you need to do is eat and enjoy yourself.

On the wedding day, you will need to be available to help the groom get ready for the wedding. This may involve helping him get dressed and helping to calm his nerves. You may also be responsible for hanging onto the ring until it is time for the bride and groom to exchange them.

Perhaps the most important part of being the best man is the toast that you give at the reception. You can give a toast that is funny, romantic, or sad. Whatever mood you want to set, you are free to do so, but make sure to keep it brief and to tell it from your heart.
