A growing number of couples are choosing to say goodbye to the traditional wedding and are flying away to exotic locations to have a destination wedding.  Not only does this option help add romance to the special day, it can also be less costly than a traditional wedding.  At the same time, there are special factors that need to be taken into consideration when planning a destination wedding.  This is particularly true when it comes to your wedding gown.  After all, you don’t want to pack away your gown and then discover that it is damaged terribly wrinkled when your big day comes around.  By keeping these things in mind, you will be certain to have the perfect dress for your special day.

Choose the Right Fabric

In order to be certain your wedding gown will travel well, it is important for you to select a dress that is made with lighter, softer fabrics.  Don’t worry about losing out on elegance when you select one of these “packable” dresses, as there are many different styles and designs of these dresses available.  In addition, by choosing a dress made from a lighter fabric, you will be more comfortable as you exchange vows.  Since many destination weddings take place outdoors, these dresses are a great choice because they will help you stay cool while still looking beautiful and elegant.  So, to keep wrinkles to the minimum, choose a wedding gown made from fabrics such as organza, chiffon and crepe.  Or, if you are planning a beach destination wedding, consider a Hawaiian holoku or a sarong.

Take it With You

In order to make certain your wedding dress travels safely, you should also be certain to keep it with you on the plane.  The reality is that luggage is lost on a regular basis and it is not unusual for packed items to accidentally get damaged.  You certainly don’t want this to happen to your wedding gown!  So, pack your destination wedding dress in your carry on bag to make certain it is cared for properly.

Buy it at Destination Location

You might also want to consider purchasing your wedding dress once you reach your destination.  I you are arriving ahead of time, you will have a few days to look for a dress that fits the ambiance and culture of the place where you are getting married.  Obviously, this won’t be a good choice if you are worried about not being able to find the perfect dress.  But, if you are a spontaneous person, buying your dress at the destination may help make this special time even more fun and exciting!
