If you are looking for a way to make your wedding reception stand out, you might want to consider getting a little creative with your wedding cake.  Your wedding cake is one of the most important decorations at your ceremony.  Not only will all eyes be on the cake during the cake ceremony, all of your guests will also enjoy tasting this very special decoration. To help make this decoration even more special, however, you might want to consider trying out these unique ideas.

It’s All About the Size

While three or four tiers is the most common wedding cake size, you might want to consider going a bit bigger.  A larger cake is sure to grab the attention and admiration of your wedding guests.  If you have been together for several years, you might want to consider creating a cake with one tier to represent every year you have been together.  Or, you might choose to go with seven tiers to symbolize good luck.  Don’t worry if you don’t have enough guests to warrant a larger wedding cake - your baker can create the bottom tier or tiers from cardboard and top it off with the real thing.

Going Crazy with Flavor

Vanilla cake is the traditional flavor for a wedding cake, but this doesn’t mean you have to stick with this flavor.  Have fun with your cake and choose a flavor you and your guests will enjoy.  Some other options you might want to consider include:

· Carrot
· Chocolate
· Marble
· Red Velvet

Of course, you don’t have to stop with choosing a cake of a different flavor - you might want to set your sites on the flavor of the icing as well.  Fruit, chocolate or mint flavored icing can really help make your cake stand out.

You might also get creative by selecting a candy-centered cake or one that includes other tasty treats in the batter.  Or, if you are having an adults only reception, a liqueur flavored wedding cake or one with a filling such as run, Kahlua or grand mariner might be a good choice.

Having Fun with Shape

There is nothing that says you have to choose a wedding cake made of round tiers.  Try having fun with the shape of your cake by exploring other options such as:

· Hollow circles
· Heart-shaped
· Hexagon
· Oval
· Rectangle
· Square
· Star-shaped
· Triangle

You might even want to explore shapes that suit your theme, such as a shell-shaped cake for a beach wedding or a Christmas tree-shaped cake for a winter wedding.

The bottom line is simple - you are not required to have a two or three tired, white and round wedding cake. This is your wedding, so make sure your cake reflects your personality and choose the size, color and shape that suits you best.
