When planning a beach wedding, you can plan a formal or a casual event with any theme that you desire.  Still, regardless of the theme or overall mood you try to create, there are a few things you should keep in mind when planning a beach wedding.

Consider Your Budget

A beach wedding can be far less expensive than a traditional wedding or it can actually be more costly, particularly if you are traveling to Hawaii or some other exotic location for your wedding.  Therefore, you will need to consider your budget in order to determine the theme as well as the number of people on your guest list.  A midday beach wedding can be less expensive than one held in the late afternoon because you can get away with serving finger foods rather than a formal dinner.  At the same time, if you are having a casual beach wedding, having a pig roast on the beach can be both inexpensive and fitting to the occasion.

Plan for Weather Surprises

Since you will be having a wedding on the beach, weather is certainly a factor.  Be certain to research the area and choose a time of the year that is less likely to be rainy or to cause other weather-related issues.  In addition, choose a location with a cove or set up a canopy or tent in case the weather is unfavorable.

Stay Legal

Before planning a beach wedding, check with the local authorities to make certain you don’t need a special permit for your wedding, particularly if you plan to block off part of the beach.  You will also need to talk to beach authorities to find out about any special rules, such as whether or not it is ok to play music late into the night and if it is ok to bring decorations.

Watch for Seagulls and Bugs

Seagulls are regularly found at beaches, which means they will also be attending your wedding whether you want them to or not.  Unfortunately, they can be quite bothersome when it comes to stealing food.  Make sure you keep the food covered and remind your guests not to feed them.

Bugs can also be a problem, particularly if they start bothering your wedding guests.  Bring insect repellent for your guests to use in case they forgot to bring their own.  It is also a good idea to bring sunscreen for your guests.
