When planning a wedding, one of the greatest concerns for many brides-to-be is making sure to follow proper etiquette.  One area where etiquette is a concern is when it comes to the special dances that take place at the reception, such as the traditional first dance.  By keeping a few things in mind, however, you will be certain to keep within proper etiquette while having a romantic and wonderful wedding reception.

The “first dance” is meant to be the first time you dance together as a married couple.  Therefore, you should pick out a special song for this dance that represents you as a couple.  It may be the first song you ever danced to, a song that was playing during a special occasion, or simply a song that captures how you feel about each other.  If you are uncomfortable about having all eyes on you throughout the entire song, however, you can have the emcee invite other family members to join in shortly after the dance has started.

Another traditional dance is the father-daughter dance, during which the bride dances with her father and the groom dances with his mother.  It is acceptable, however, for the bride and the groom to choose some other significant individual to dance with during this special dance.  Or, you may split this special dance up with a couple different people.  If you have too many people to choose from, such as if you have a biological father, a step-father, and grandfather that raised you, it may be easier to simply skip this dance if you cannot decide who to dance with.
