It must be true that love knows no boundaries:  even when it comes to age.  Just yesterday, 95 year old Bernice Jenkins married 95 year old Wallis Richard at Camarillo Baptist church in Los Angeles.

According to wedding guests, the ceremony included all of the tradition that would be expected of any wedding, including beautiful flowers, a highly emotional ceremony and an antique silk dress worn by the lovely bride.

Over 200 guests attended the wedding, which may have united the oldest newlywed couple in California.  As can be expected, the union of the two late-in-life individuals was a great inspiration to many of the guests.

“I think we’d be staggered to be here with one 95-year-old,” said Rev. Paul Phillips.  “But, two 95-year-olds is something I don’t think we will ever see again.”

Bernice was escorted down the aisle by her two sons – both of whom are also up there in age and have balding heads to prove it.  Both Bernice and Wallis found themselves widowed within the past ten years after having been married for over 60 years to their first spouses.  Both consider themselves fortunate to have been able to find love once more.

The two actually knew each other prior to losing their previous spouses.  In fact, the two couples had retired at Leisure Village, located in Camarillo.  After they both lost their spouses, Wallis began to purchase Bernice and actually proposed on the first date.  This actually backfired on Wallis, as Bernice was frightened away by the proposal.  It didn’t take long for her to change her mind, however, and finally accept the proposal.

“I kept hearing love songs in my head and I had an epiphany:  ‘Lord, I have fallen in love with this man!’” said Bernice.
