Are you looking for something different to do on your wedding day? A growing number of couples are deciding to turn their back on tradition and have a wedding that is uniquely “theirs” – and that is just what Erin Clark and Avery Pennarun decided to do.
Apparently, Clark and Pennarun really wanted to included tree planting as part of their wedding ceremony, but they were not able to plant trees at the farm they had booked for their ceremony. So, they walked up to a complete stranger at a diner in the area and asked where they could go if they wanted to plant 50 trees. The stranger then pointed them in the direction of a farm and an owner that wanted to reforest the land so it would look like it did back in the 1800s.
“All the normal formalities of modern marriage didn’t really interest us,” said Pennarun. “We’re creating new life and something that’s going to last for a long time.”
To that end, the couple and 50 of their friends headed over to the farm and planted 72 native trees on the 40 hectare property. To make the occasion even more special, owner Barbara McNabb named the section “Erin’s Dell” after the bride. What better gift could a couple have than to have a miniature forest named after the bride?
