When it comes to making plans for your wedding, one of the most important decisions you need to make is who will be taking the photographs. After all, you want to be able to look at your wedding photos years later and use them to help spark your memories of this very special day. Therefore, it is important for you to take the proper steps to selecting the right photographer for your wedding. With this 4-step approach, you are certain to be pleased with the outcome of your photos.
Step #1: Do Some Research
The first step in finding the perfect photographer is to simply conduct an ample amount of research. If you know anyone who has recently been married, ask them who they selected as a photographer and find out if they were satisfied with the results. You might also want to ask them who else they considered for the job and find out why they decided against that particular photographer. This way, you can get an idea of whose services are available and the type of service they provide. Whether you know someone who has recently gotten married or not, you will also want to contact all of the photographers you think may be a good candidate and set up meetings with them. During these meetings, be sure to look over the photographer’s portfolio and to spend some time talking with him or her so you can be certain you feel comfortable with that person.
Step #2: Set a Budget
Most photographers will have several different packages for you to select from for your wedding. Before you met with the photographers, you should have had a general idea of how much you were willing to spend for the service. So, take a look at the packages the photographer has available and select the one that best meets your needs while still staying within your budget.
Step #3: Keep Communication Open
Some couples make the mistake of selecting a photographer and then never talking to that person again until the day of the wedding. The reality is that it is important for you to maintain open lines of communication with the photographer so you can be certain to get the results you are after. Be certain to talk to the photographer about the types of photos you want to have taken. For example, you may be including a special ceremony within your wedding ceremony that you want to be certain is well photographed. Or, you may want the photographer to focus more on taking photos of couples rather than solo shots. Or, perhaps you want more of your photos to be taken at the reception than at the wedding ceremony. By communicating your desires clearly with the photographer, he or she will be able to come better prepared and will be able to take the types of photos you want.
Step #4: Select the Photos
If you have been communicating clearly with the photographer, you should know well in advance when you are going to get to view the photo proofs and select the ones that you want. So, the only step you have left now is to actually view the photos and pick out the ones that you want to keep. This step will likely be the most difficult of them all, as you will probably want to keep them all!
