If you are planning to have a wedding that follows all of the steps of a traditional wedding, you will certainly be including a rehearsal dinner.  The rehearsal dinner is more than just one more thing you need to do for your wedding, however.  In fact, the rehearsal dinner is a great time for you and your closest family members and friends to get together and have some fun before the wedding starts.  In addition, it allows you to express your appreciation to your wedding party for all of the things they have done to help make your wedding a success.

While you don’t have to send out invitations for a rehearsal dinner, you may decide to do so in order to make the event a bit more formal.  Sending out rehearsal dinner invitations is also a great way to set a certain mood for the dinner.  For example, formal invitations will let your guests know that you are planning a more traditional and serious dinner.  Casual or even whimsical invitations, on the other hand, will let your guests know it will be a more laid back affair.

In addition to announcing the dinner plans, rehearsal dinner invitations can also be used to give your guests an idea of what will be included at the dinner.  Some couples choose to have drinks and finger foods while others have a full out meal.  By giving your guests an idea of what to expect, they can be better prepared for the dinner.

Although you do not need to send out formal rehearsal dinner invitations, you still need to get an idea of how many people will be attending.  If you are catering a dinner, for example, you will need to tell the caterer how many people will be in attendance.  Even if you are simply meeting at a restaurant, it is helpful to make arrangements ahead of time so you can be certain seating will be available for your rehearsal dinner.

Whether you hand out invitations or not, remember that the goal is to simply enjoy spending time with the people in your wedding party.  So, don’t stress out too much about the rehearsal dinner.  Rather, relax and try to have fun before your big day!
