Are you trying to think of a unique way to invite your guests to your special day? If so, you might want to consider creating your own scrap wedding invitations.  Not only can it be a great deal of fun to make scrap invitations, but it can also save you money while helping you create your own unique look.

Getting Started

In order to create your own scrap wedding invitations, you should first sketch out a plan for how you want the invitations to look.  Be sure to plan out the size and shape of the card as well as how it will fold, such as tri-fold versus a tea-length invitation.  You should also consider the colors you will use as well as any embellishments you will add.  Finally, don’t forget to plan the layout for the invitation wording as well as any decorative accents you might want to add.

Once you have put together a design idea, show it to a few friends and family members to get their feedback.  If you are having a hard time coming up with a design, visit craft stores or browse through traditional wedding invitations to help get your creative juices flowing.  You might even want to sit down with some scrap supplies and make up a few different design layouts with the supplies so you can really see how the invitation will look in the end.

Gathering Your Supplies

Now that you know what you want your invitations to look like, it is time to gather together all of the proper supplies.  Depending upon the design you have created, you may need the following tools and materials:

  •  Beads
  •  Chalk
  •  Clips
  •  Colored Pencils
  •  Die Cuts
  •  Eyelets
  •  Glue
  •  Grommets
  •  Lace
  •  Markers
  •  Pens
  •  Ribbons
  •  Shaped Hole Punchers
  •  Stamps
  •  Stencils
  •  Stickers

Keep in mind that adding three-dimensional embellishments such as charms will really make your invitation stand out, but it may also add to your postage expense.

Creating Your Invitations

If you are really struggling with coming up with your own ideas and gathering the proper supplies, you might want to consider purchasing special wedding invitation kits and putting the invitations together yourself.  In this way, you can still add your own special touches while saving money on your invitation costs.

Whether you create your own design or use a kit, you may also want to consider holding an invitation assembling party.  Invite your bridal party members, family members and future in-laws over to help you put together your scrap wedding invitations.  This way, the job can get completed more quickly and everyone will have some extra time to bond before the big day.
