Are you feeling overwhelmed and confused when it comes to preparing your wedding invitations to be mailed? After taking your time to carefully select the design and wording that you want on your wedding invitations, figuring out how you are supposed to put them together and how you are supposed to address the envelopes can seem a bit confusing. With these helpful tips, however, you will be certain to get your invitations mailed off without a problem!
Maintaining the Mystery
When it comes to stuffing your wedding invitation envelopes, you want to be sure to maintain an air of mystery. Therefore, if you have an inner envelope, the flap should be facing toward the front side of the envelope. That way, the recipient will not see the flap to the inner envelope when he or she opens the outer envelope. In addition, the inner envelope should be left unsealed and should contain the name of the invitee on the front. If you do not have an inner envelope, the front of the card should be facing away from the flap of the outer envelope, with the edge facing up.
Addressing Your Envelope
When addressing the outer envelope, there are a few rules of etiquette you should follow. First of all, you should not abbreviate anything within the address except for the name of the state. Some rules of etiquette call for spelling out the name of the state as well, but the post office prefers that you do not.
In addition to spelling everything out on the front of the envelope, you should take care to address the recipient properly. If you are inviting a married couple, you should address the envelope as “Mr. and Mrs. John Doe.” If you are inviting an unmarried couple who lives together, on the other hand, you should call each guest by his or her name and each name should be placed on a separate line.
