Are you trying to plan an elegant wedding, but your budget is a little tight?  If so, you may be looking for some ways to cut corners without having to sacrifice quality.  One area where you may be able to save a little money while still maintaining the level of elegance you are trying to achieve is with your wedding invitations.  In fact, if you make your wedding invitations rather than purchasing them already made, you could potentially save a great deal of money.

Where to Shop

There are many places you can shop for the stationary to use with your wedding invitations.  In addition to looking at party supply and stationary stores, you might also want to look at office supply stores such as Staples and Kinkos.  Many times, these stores will carry beautiful stationary or invitations that you can use for your cards.  Even places such as Costco, mail order catalogs and websites will offer invitations at low cost or the supplies you need for creating your own.  You may even be able to get the engraved look at a lower cost with the help of thermography, which is used to create the same raised look and feel at a much lower cost.

Using a Kit

If you are considering making your own invitations, you might want to look into purchasing an invitation kit.  These kits typically include all of the little extras that can be found on higher end invitations, such as offering multiple layers of paper, bows, silk flower embellishments and even metal and wood accents.  Just keep in mind that these little extras can raise the cost of postage, which can quickly put your budget over the top.  So, pick and choose the embellishments you use carefully.

Cost Cutting Measures

It is also possible to have your invitations professionally made while still saving money.  If you go with simple yet elegant wedding invitations printed on a high-quality paper, you can generally save some money.  You might also choose to forgo the lined envelope and you may also choose not to include the second envelope in your invitation.  You should also keep an eye out for discount package deals, which are frequently available through online stores.  In many cases, you can also receive a discount of you order all of the items you need at once rather than ordering them separately.
